Why Phuket Is a Great Family Destination on a Budget

Compared to many tropical destinations, Phuket offers excellent value for money. You get world-class beaches, great food, and family-friendly hotels for a fraction of what you’d pay in the Caribbean or Hawaii. Many attractions are either free (beaches, markets) or very affordable, so you can mix in some paid excursions without breaking the bank.

Phuket Seasonal Price Changes

  • High Season (Nov–Feb): Best weather, peak hotel rates (+20–40%). Christmas & New Year are the most expensive.

  • Shoulder Season (Mar–Apr): Hotter, but still mostly dry—slightly lower rates.

  • Low Season (May–Oct): Rainy season; cheapest hotel prices, fewer crowds.

  • Special Events: Chinese New Year and Loy Krathong can push up prices.

Best Areas in Phuket for Families & Cost Differences

  • Patong Beach: Busy nightlife, shopping malls, mid-to-high range hotels ($90+ mid-range).

  • Kata & Karon: Relaxed, family-friendly, mid-range hotels from $60/night.

  • Kamala & Bang Tao: Quiet, upscale resorts ($150+), great for longer stays.

  • Phuket Old Town: Cultural charm, cheaper guesthouses ($30–$50).

Methodology & Currency Note

Prices were researched in August 2025 while traveling in Thailand. (we are currently in Koh Samui) Data comes from our own trip plus updated rates from hotel booking sites, transport providers, and attraction tickets. 💱 USD–THB exchange rate: $1 ≈ 35 THB. Prices may vary—always double-check before booking.

The people behind Yim Travel!

We’re a family of four from Belgium who have been exploring Thailand for over a decade – ever since our kids were in kindergarten. From the islands of the south to the jungles in the north, we’ve traveled across Thailand by train, tuk-tuk, scooter and longtail boat.

With two growing teens now in tow, our adventures have grown with us. We’ve learned where to find the most kid-friendly beaches, the safest street food, the best family resorts, and the hidden gems that guidebooks often miss.

We started YIM Travel to share our hands-on experience with other families and travelers who want to explore Thailand with confidence. Every blog post is based on real trips, real places, and honest advice – with a big dose of love for Thai culture, food and people.

We don’t just write about Thailand. We live it.
